FRESH FEST!: BEETHOVEN LIVES UPSTAIRS, July 12th at Navy Pier's Lake Stage at Polk Bros. Park at 7:00pm

  • Navy Pier: Lake Stage at Polk Bros. Park 600 East Grand Avenue Chicago, IL, 60611 United States (map)

Here's a chance to hear the Oistrakh Symphony in a Family Concert at Navy Pier -- on the Lake Stage at Polk Bros. Park -- when OSC presents Beethoven Lives Upstairs; the concert is open to all. Delivered in partnership with Classical Kids, here's an introduction to this delightful program from our friends at Classical Kids:

The world famous production of Beethoven Lives Upstairs features a lively exchange of letters between young Christoph and his uncle. Their subject is the “madman” who has moved into the upstairs apartment of Christoph’s Vienna home. Through a touching correspondence dramatically underscored with the composer’s most beautiful excerpts, Christoph comes to understand the genius of Beethoven, the beauty of his music, and the torment of his deafness. Directed by Paul Pement and conducted by Mina Zikri, Beethoven Lives Upstairs features Thad Avery and Sarah Cartwright. More than twenty-five excerpts of Beethoven's music, including favorites like Für Elise, the beautiful Moonlight Sonata, and the great Fifth and Ninth Symphonies, are magically woven into the drama. Beethoven Lives Upstairs combines drama, music and fun in an engaging concert that is recommended for audiences age six and up.
